Are you sick of spending what seems like days on end cleaning your home? Overwhelmed with too many unhelpful cleaning suggestions? Well then we have some good news for you! Yes, you read the headline correctly. It may seem hard to believe, especially for those of us with large or just incredibly messy families, but even you can clean your entire home in just three hours.

Broken up into managable segments, this article will take you through step by step and give you the ultimate guidance on fast cleaning–with or without children running around the home.

We can guarantee that after reading this, you will get that I can do this attitude. So, let's get started!

Prep time: 10 minutes

It's time to get in the game. You have 10 minutes to gather all of your supplies for your cleaning adventure. You're going to need rags, sponges, some laundry baskets, garbage bags, storage totes or bins, and your favourite household cleaners.

Set aside anything that you think may distract you from your mission. That probably means turning your phone on silent. We also highly suggest grabbing your music player for a little extra motivation, so you can whistle while you work.

Remove unnecessary items: 30 minutes

You want to have a game plan set before you tackle any big cleaning job. Without proper planning, you might have to clean the same area more than once due to carelessness. For instance, don't start vacuuming before you've dusted, and don't dust the bottom shelf before you dust the top. This kind of strategic planning will easily save you hours of cleaning time.

So in this step, you'll want to remove all the unnecessary clutter you have lying around. Take care of those shoes in the hallway, those dishes on the coffee table, any scattered clothing items thrown about…

If you're already starting to feel the heat of the cleaning, we suggest you open up the windows. It will cool you down and also bring in some nice air to freshen up the place.

Speed wash the living room: 30 minutes

Now that all of those loose ends are in their proper place, we can focus on cleaning the first room: the living room. So, first thing's first—we dust. Don't forget those hard to reach places like the tops of shelves, or those commonly overlooked areas, like the pictures hanging from your walls.

After dusting, wipe down all surfaces, like the coffee table, entertainment centre, mantle, and so on. Once that's finished, you can focus on the floors. Your average bucket of soap and water should do the trick, but be mindful to check your flooring type, as the wrong chemicals could affect the quality of the surface.

40 minute time limit for the kitchen!

We know the kitchen is a place that gets really messy, really quickly–especially if you have a large family or entertain often. That's why it'll take a little longer than the other rooms in the home to clean.

You'll want to start off with cleaning the counter spaces and taking care of any scattered food items you may have lying about. Don't forget to check underneath and behind your appliances–then you can focus on the floor.  Use either a multipurpose cleaner or a tough degreaser. You will most likely save the sink for last, as you'll be going back and forth rinsing and cleaning in this area.

Here's a little more info on how you can clean and maintain your kitchen equipment

Tackle the bedroom: 30 minutes

Now that the most difficult room in the home has been taken care of, it's time to tackle the bedroom. Since the bedroom is where we relax, it's likely that there are scattered knick-knacks here and there, a book or two that's out of place. So put all these items on their designated shelves and then we can get to the real work.

Start off by making the bed. Put on some clean sheets, dust all surfaces, sweep the floor–even those hard to reach corners–vacuum any area rug you might have, and wash those windows.

20 minutes for a sparkling bathroom

Luckily, the bathroom is the smallest room in the home, so it shouldn't take long to tidy it up.

The toilet, sink(s), and the tub are the most important elements in the bathroom, so focus on these areas. Get all that grime and mould from the shower or tub, take care of the soap scum in the sink, and check that toilet for unwanted marks. You should also make sure that you have clean towels and bath mats ready for that overall sparkling clean feeling.

Spruce up the terrace: 10 minutes

Since it's located outside, no one ever expects the porch or terrace area to be completely free of dirt. A quick sweep to get rid of fallen leaves, and wiping the pollen off of the tables and chairs is enough to spruce up your outdoor entertainment area.

Add final touches–incense and candles

We're almost done! All that's left is to add the finishing touches for an extra crisp, clean, and fresh home. Take a moment to think about the desired fragrance in each room

Once you've decided on a scent, buy some incense, candles, or diffusers and place them on the coffee table, mantle, bedside table, or kitchen counter. This small touch will make all the difference in your home's aura and atmosphere.
