Malaysia boasts some of the world’s most impressive architecture, just look at the Petronas Towers! So today we’ll be sticking to our own backyard, as we take a tour of an amazing Malaysian apartment by interior designers Design Spirits.

These trend-setting designers have won several awards in recent years, and have emerged as one of the top interior design firms in the Klang Valley. Design Spirits strive to collaborate with their clients, provide artistic solutions to functional needs and ultimately create original projects.

Panned out pretty well

The panoramic city views from this largely open-plan apartment really speak for themselves; they’re quite astonishing!

The combined effect of the open-plan living space, the white walls and floors, and huge windows is to create a very spacious, open and light area; providing a refuge from busy city life.

Space to reflect

Turning away from the windows to view the open-plan area in its entirety, we can see how the white, open space is given depth and brought to life by the dark furniture and window frames.

A key design feature of the room is the large, almost wall-to-wall mirror behind the dining area, as well as the mirror surrounding the television; together they serve to increase the feeling of space in the apartment.

Contrast and colour

Continuing on to the bedroom, we find that it’s fairly minimalist in design, yet striking in appearance.

The room is defined by the same contrasting black and white colour scheme we see in the open-plan area of the home, with just a dash of dramatic colour; in this case taking the form of the artwork above the bed.

Off the beaten track

Our second bedroom strays slightly from the apartment’s dominant colour scheme. It appears that enhancing the space and light were still key features in the room’s design—attested to by the white walls and furnishings as well as the large mirror facing the bed – but the dark colours are absent.

This endows the room with a slightly more homely feel, while the brightly coloured artwork still furnishes the room with the home’s signature dashes of bright colour.

Study the room in more detail

The adjacent balcony adds an extra dimension to the room, allowing the occupant a little fresher air, and the opportunity to view the city beneath.

Next to it, we find a small study area: a peaceful little corner in which to work. Thanks to the mirror in front and balcony to the side, this little corner will be filled with natural light.

Let that sink in

The classically styled bathroom has a unique and charming eccentricity: two sinks. One for each hand perhaps?
