A modern apartment design in Singapore

This two floor flat in Singapore has been completely refurbished by the designers and interior decorators of Voila PTE Ltd.

As an already fairly large apartment with several, well partitioned rooms and areas, the decorating came down to giving each of those rooms their own, individual aesthetic schemes which also unified with the other room's aesthetics—a difficult feat for the best of decorators. But we think Voila has pulled it off with this example, called Tagore Avenue. Let's take a closer look…

Cool living

The main living room's aesthetic is thoroughly modern and uses thoroughly Asian design combinations, like dark, knotty woods which have been highly glossed, as can be seen on the wall-sized, built-in entertainment console.

The lacquered wood fits impeccably with the pop of the orange leather sofa and honey cherry wood ottoman. So also has the floor been left tiled and shiny, with no carpet, simply a cream sheen to keep things cool against the Singapore heat outside.

A pleasant do-anything space

What is to love about the apartment's design so far is precisely that each room has been designed according to its intended function. So beyond the wood and glass folding doors in the TV room lays this room: the whatever-you-want-to-do-in-here room.

This room has been decorated minimally compared to the others in the flat, with just a nice rosewood floor, a charcoal stone wall where the bikes hang, thin wood blind and a wicker deck table and chair set for working, having a nice meal or starting your next craft project.

A whole room for your clothes

Few city apartments can boast this kind of walk-in wardrobe, complete with a vanity desk and mirror and a bay window.

Doubly enviable are the built-in closets with space for two people's clothes, and the plush cream-coloured carpets that no doubt feel quite nice first thing in the morning, when you walk in sleepy eyed to choose your day's outfit.

Contemporary clean

Although kitchen islands are on-trend, they are really not suitable for all kitchens--especially apartment kitchens.

It was thus wise that the designers left this kitchen open, with nothing impeding its centre floor space, so everything is minimalist without being bare bones, since it has been equipped with top-notch appliances, such as a gas stovetop and a stainless steel sink.

Lastly, the yellow under-lighting along the floors smash with the gleaming white cupboards and grey tiled floors, making a basic but attractive kitchen.

Stonewashed

From ceiling to floor, the designers have decided to go for it with the grey stone brick tiling, and the choice of an open access shower makes the look of the walls that much more grand.

It is by using materials totally, rather than sparingly, that a thoroughly modern, minimalist bathroom design has been achieved here: no knick knacks or art is necessary to complete the decor—a trend weaved throughout this apartment--because the walls are the decoration themselves—beauteous thing for all of us who struggle to redecorate our homes every few years.
