Living and dining areas of any home are essential—the right design creates the right atmosphere that emanates and dictates the way you feel and function.

The ERC interior decorators and restorers out of Seville, Spain are experts at taking large open spaces and using nothing but awesome furniture and styling to break them up and make them go bang.

The designers love cool and warm palettes that breath; they love air and think that, of all the elements, air is the one that makes homes liveable and energising. So we are going start with their coolest room, the kitchen.

Kitchen light

Marshmallow white and mint green make this kitchen as cool and upbeat as can be--who wouldn't feel a bit more positive about starting the day after breakfasting in here?

It's difficult to pick a favourite feature; from the shiny white bar nook, the retro minimalist white chairs to the high-fashion, vintage refrigerator with a sheer mint gleam and silver pull handles, no, we can't choose one favourite in here. Can you?

Nature pulls through

The old brick building viewed outside this living area's window looks sad and stark compared to what is happening inside the apartment that's been done by ERC. Forest greens pops off the wall in the form of a plush canvas sofa, accented with bright green and white throw pillows, an emerald tiger rug, two, large framed photo prints and a corner stand-alone plant, for an altogether tropical, organic modern look.

But this natural constellation on the one side of the room works nicely with the grey, black, white and pinewood colour scheme of the dining room opposite: the whole room is fresh!

Subtle colours

Sometimes a room has to go for subtle to be bold. Case in point, this living and dining area by ERC. Naturals, low-processed wood floors abound throughout, peppered by sizeable white rugs that have been places off-centre under the dining and coffee tables to break up the space and create a bit more dynamism.

With white walls, dining chairs and a simple, retro minimal table, the pop of colour in the area comes solely from the large photo prints on the walls and the deep emerald furnishings.

Sofa-centred

A classic ERC move is to choose an item of furniture--an armchair or sofa, usually--and make it the centre colour spot of the space, having all other decor, including wall art, coffee tables and rugs, play around the one of the many themes the colour of the furniture item dictates.

You can see this is precisely what they have done in this living room as well: a soft yellow sofa on pinewood peg legs pulls in the mottled beige and black rug and the timber log and glass coffee table excellently.

Powder blue true

Back to a cool palette, this swanky sofa room has powder blue as the accent colour, with wall and matching sofa. An enormous, ethereal photo print in bright pinks, blues and yellows faces off the windows, so light reflects from the glass and colours of the pictures back into the room, which is on the smaller side, making thing feel grander and airier than ever. Are you convinced by now that ERC are masters of feathery minimalist living and dining design?
