A welcoming hallway puts everyone instantly at ease. Strangers coming to meet you for the very first time, instantly feel the presence of a warm and sensible person who also boasts exquisite taste. An uncluttered hallway ensures that fresh air from the outside can travel through the interiors. It also removes stale interior air and fills it with positive energy.

When there are so many things at stake, can you really afford to neglect your hall décor? Most certainly not! Learn these inspiring ways to set everything in order in this part of your home…

1. Clean up the space

Remove everything you have in this space, necessary or otherwise. Begin with a clean slate. Scrub or dust away the grime from the flooring and walls. Make sure that the corners are squeaky clean. Now assess the space and find out what you can afford to place here and what not.

Space constraints plague many modern homes. If you are suffering from the same concerns you will have to be particularly selective about the furniture and decorative objects for this space. That, however, does not imply you cannot have anything here. Just make sure you focus on the essentials first.

2. Use a shoe closet

Place a shoe closet close to the doorway. If it is a narrow space that you are decorating, then choose one that is slender and functional. Keep everything neatly arranged on it.

To save your leather accessories from dust and moisture related problems, you may prefer having covered segments over the open cabinets. Either way, make sure that it remains orderly and not an added option for dust accumulation.

3. Build a mudroom locker

Every hallway would benefit from having a mudroom locker. For small spaces, it could be a simple storage unit for hanging clothes, umbrellas and other accessories.

Bigger halls may have a few more pieces suitable to store away a range of items. You could also recycle a free standing armoire and give this space an elegant makeover!

4. Make the best use the under stair space

You can use this idle space in a number of ways. Building additional storage cabinets is one of the best possible uses. Instead of keeping it in the corridor, you can tuck your shoe closet under the stairway. Elaborate built-in cabinets can help you to keep a lot of household items neatly arranged.

You will not only relieve the hallway clutter this way, but also reduce some of the congestion of the other parts of your home. You can also use this space to build a chat area or a cosy studio.

5. Install floating tables

Console tables are one of the essential pieces of furniture for this area of your home. However, a lack of space may make it difficult for you to place a quality console table here.

Don’t be disheartened—build a small floating table or install floating shelves that will help you to beautify the space with its sheer presence.

6. Use art to create an ambience

Suitable objects of art can hide many of the design flaws. Put a prominent mirror on the wall or install glass panels. Use wall arts, tapestries, paintings or framed photographs to decorate the walls. Place potted plants and flower vases on the console table. Spread a small but stylish area rug at the centre of the hall.

You can choose to have a couple of table lamps or sculptural pendant lighting to make this space even more fashionable. Have optimal lighting so that the space does not become gloomy, especially when the source of natural light is not so plentiful.

It will hardly take a weekend or two to decorate a stylish hallway. There is no doubt that you will be able to spare this much in order to maintain the hospitable nature of your home.
