Everyone needs a comfortable place where they can relax and spend quality time with friends and family, or even alone, and it doesn't need to be extensive or ornately decorated in order to achieve this. As a matter of fact, simple home designs are often more practical and contribute to a greater sense of relaxation than the ones that have what seems like junk just lying around all over the place.
So that's why today on homify, we're taking you to a charming and modern apartment designed by the architects at Studio Barino in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We want to emphasize that just because a home has an uncomplicated design, it doesn't mean that it's any less fashionable or desirable. The design office that brought us our project today specializes in combining comfort with a sophisticated aesthetic. Check out these striking spaces and gather some inspiration for your own home!
The first area we're looking at is the dining and living area, separated only visually by way of a rug. We can see all the normal ingredients for a modern home: neutral colours, clean lines, plenty of light, sleek furniture, and open spaces.
We marvel at the simplicity of this design. There are no elaborate wall hangings, no multi-coloured and mismatched furniture–just an elementary outline with all our human necessities.
Sometimes, the smallest hints and accents in a home are what make it really stand out. In this case, it's how the quaint translucent blue glass matches the decorative piece of art behind the sofa.
It's small coordinating features like this that really let you know how much time and effort was spent in creating a uniform feel throughout the space.
Here we have a better view of the artwork and the sofa. The swirling blue design with hints of red, green, and yellow brings a splash of elegance to the space that is only matched by the simple style of the sofa.
Adorned in a soft grey with multiple throw cushions, this couch begs to be nuzzled up to, which is perfect because there's a nice, big wide-screen television just opposite this cosy thing.
Here we have a head-on view of the living room and the perfect vantage point to look out of those huge windows.
Just look at the rows upon rows of lush, green trees and plants! We can't think of a calming sight. And when the glare from the sun disrupts TV time, these residents can pull down the long white roman blinds.
Here we have the kitchen, which has been outfitted with every piece of kitchen equipment you could think of. The colour palette here is slightly different from the living and dining areas.
The designers chose a soft cream colour for the walls and counter, helping us to visually distinguish the space while also breaking the monotony of white. The mixer and vase on the open shelf give us nice red accents, as well.
Here in one of the bedrooms, we see another interesting to the decor–a bright red, retro-inspired chair, and it matches the colour of the mixer we saw. This splash of colour brings life to the neutral space without overpowering it.
Finally, we have the bathroom, just as elegant as the rest of the home, but with even less decoration and colour. Less colour here isn't a bad thing, either, especially in the bathroom.
When our spaces are filled with dark colours or fancy patterns, they seem smaller, but with white everything seems larger, and that's helpful in the smallest room in the house. The large mirror also helps expand the space, and the basin sink fixed in the counter fits perfectly with the decor. After viewing this home, what more could you want?
