Closets are something we can take for granted. Little do we realize how indispensable such an organisational tool can be. They give us the perfect cubby for storing all of our clothes, footwear, accessories, and even some junk that just doesn't have a place in the room.

Of course with small homes, as with any other feature, closets that are right for you can be hard to come by. That's why we thought we'd share this list of 13 closet designs that are ideal for small homes. When you have limited space, every square cenimetre counts, and with these fantastic closets, you're sure to find the perfect fit for your home.

Are you ready? Let's get to it!

1. A great and original solution

This contemporary urban style gives us the ability to give any room a modern, relaxed, and very youthful appearance. Perfect for those of you living the solo life, this design doubles as both a closet and loft bed, and on top of that, there are compartments for storing literally anything you own!

2. Simple cabinetry

This type of simple cabinetry is your best friend in your small home. With this design, you can easily hang your work clothes, organise all your shoes, and even keep your purses neat and tidy. Add a sliding door on the face and your space will look even more ordered.

3. Seize every possible space

If you have a larger than average bathroom in your small home, then what are you waiting for? Seize this storage opportunity! This closet shows us that the bathroom can indeed be a multifunctional room.

4. Bedroom closets

If you think your flat has absolutely no room for a closet, this is when you can get inventive. You don't necessarily need a separate room or cubby to be your closet. Take this image, for example. A curtain rod was installed in the ceiling with thick and stylish curtains hung from them, and voila! Now you have a closet space for all of your odds and ends!

5. Invisible doors

The more doors and physical obstacles you have in your home, the smaller it feels. This is something the small homeowner needs to be extra aware of. So consider invisible doors on your closet. This will visually lengthen the room and will give your room a bold and fashionable statement.

6. Optimize space

If the space we have isn't enough, then we just need to optimize it. And for this, we just have to think of optimizing our space. Stretch your closet cubbies as far as your wall goes–that way, you keep the main area free of junk and you have more room to walk around.

7. Use racks

Racks give us the option to order and store anywhere. Use them in the hall, under the stairs, and even in the bedroom.

8. Airtight storage

Here we have an average closet design, but what's extra special about it is the way in which the clothes are stored. To keep them in the best condition, these closet doors seal in an airtight manner. And if you can, keep your closet near a window to avoid dust build-up.

9. A place for everything

When it comes to closets, designs like this are the best of the best. Why? Because there's a space for everything. There's no better way to find your clothes faster and keep things tidy than to have special compartments for everything.

10. Open spaces

Closets that are in open spaces are an excellent choice when you don't want to make major changes to your home. To achieve this look, go to your local hardware store and pick up a few wall shelves like this, fasten them to your walls, and boom! You have a fashionable closet space!

11. Using mirrors

Mirrors reflect light and visual space, so having mirrors on your closet doors is the best way to achieve a greater sense of space and to hide and store your clothes and footwear. And as you're deciding on your outfit for the day, you have a handy place right in front of you to model your look.

12. Light colours

Visibility is something important in a closet. After all, how else are you supposed to pick out that perfect outfit? Well-lit closets are a must so you can see everything you own, and when you add light interior wall colours to the mix, your only improves.

13. Customise

Our last piece of advice is for you on a personal level. Each and every one of these ideas would work wonders in your small home, but don't forget to customise your look with your own personal flair. This could be with the addition of a funky mirror, or just a few a extra storage cubbies for some accessories. As long as it makes you feel like an expression of yourself, anything will look great!

If you like small spaces and innovative design, then you're sure to love this pint-sized home with character!
