This modular house design is the genius of Russian architecture firm INT2. The young and talented studio team are based in St. Petersburg. They work across various sectors, offering a wide range of services that range from art consulting to architectural planning and design. The name of the studio was, in fact, inspired by two words: Intuition + Intelligence.

They explain that they believe that the answers to many questions can be found at the border of rational knowledge (logic or intelligence) and irrational knowledge (intuition). And, in incorporating a number of other skills—including internationality, interdisciplinary design, and interactivity - INT2 sometimes becomes int3, int5 or even int10.

This particular project we are about to take a look at, called PLUSMODUL, is a versatile modular housing system that can be adapted to the needs and wishes of the client. It demonstrates their sleek and stylish style that is a benchmark of all their work. Now, let's take a look…

The gable end

The design merges the traditional and the contemporary. It employs a conventional typology, with a rectangular plan and visibly pitched roof, but in a new and interesting way.

The timber appears to wrap the entire exterior and gives the various facades a wonderful texture.

The exterior

From the size to the configuration, the number of storeys to the finishes—everything can be selected to suit the client's wishes. It's is no way an undifferentiated abode, rather, it can be personalised for the user. Whether you want it to be one storey or two; linear, L-shaped or C-shaped; black roof or light roof—the choice is yours.

And, what's more, the house can have modules added to in in the future if your family grows or you simply desire more space. The options really are endless!

The interior

The interior is just as stylish as the exterior. The natural timber cladding we saw on the exterior makes its way into the interior, too; cladding the floor, walls, and ceiling.

A minimal aesthetic is favored and the Scandinavian influence undeniable. There are a number of selections that can be made on the interior also which allows the inhabitants to personalise the space to their tastes.

The exterior: option 2

Was the first option too light for you? Would you prefer something a touch more mysterious and masculine? This option sees a zinc roof, rendered in black, wrap down the front facade and enclose part of the front terrace. It is sleek and sophisticated—and it gives the home a completely different look!

Living and kitchen: option 2

Similarly, on the interior, one can opt for a different colour scheme. Here, the kitchen is finished in dark black—a complete contrast to the bright white kitchen we saw above. This one also features a kitchen island that serves as a breakfast bar. It's not just the layout that the client can play around with, everything from finishes to furniture selection can be selected to suit.
