The home is an ever-changing entity forever being rearranged and updated, and creating your ideal home is an on-going process involving a fair bit of time and hard work. That being said, it’s also an incredibly creative and rewarding process; particularly when the creative ideas are your own or you’ve done the work yourself—there’s a tremendous amount of satisfaction to be had from seeing the fruits of your labour.

Of course we’re not all skilled designers or craftsmen, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get involved in shaping our own homes. To prove this, we’ve put together a list of fifteen DIY projects you can do at home. Let’s take a look…

1. Build your own bed

 You don’t have to be a carpenter to build your own bed, just get a few pallets! Check out this guide for more creative ideas for constructing pallet furniture.

2. Build patio furniture

 Building on point number one, why not construct a table and chair for the patio?

3. Spruce up your garden/terrace

 Spruce up your garden or terrace with a few well-placed plants; you can even build your own planters.

4. Create some clothes storage

 Create extra clothes storage in your bedroom by hanging a rail from the ceiling.

5. Lay some new flooring

 Get rid of the old carpet and lay some laminate flooring. With the handy click into place design it’s not as difficult as you’d think!

6. Repaint

 Perhaps the simplest of solutions for giving your home a bit of new life: repaint.

7. Retile

 If you’re feeling more adventurous, then you could retile the bathroom or kitchen, but as always if you’re unsure its best to consult a professional.

8. Paint a mural

 If you’re not content with simply repainting the walls why not get really creative and paint a mural?

9. Paint furniture/cabinetry

 Give the furniture or cabinetry new life through a fresh coat of paint, or make it really stand out by painting some creative patterns.

10. Put up shelves

 Putting up new shelving is a great way to increase storage and improve the aesthetics of a room, and all you need is a piece of wood cut to the right size and a few brackets and screws!

 You can completely change the look of a room by creating a chalkboard wall, all you need is some chalkboard paint.

14. Create a gallery wall

 Create a gallery wall by hanging pictures or paintings together.

15. Clean and rearrange

 OK strictly speaking this isn’t a DIY project, but giving your home a good clean and rearranging the furniture is a simply way to give your home a fresh new look.
