Cities can be great. Every day is an opportunity to meet new and interesting people, or discover fun little secrets that very few people know about. Everything is within reach, and you will never have to be alone, with friends scattered all over the city. But cities can also be hard. They're usually packed with commuters and tourists, and they can be full of loud and unpleasant noises. Sometimes, you just need to get away.

Some people, getaway to cities in different countries. There, they can become explorers, broaden their horizons and experience different lifestyles. But sometimes, these same people leave behind cities altogether. They choose the quiet and slower pace of the great outdoors. Hidden away from all that hustle and bustle by a wall of mighty tree. Today's article will be a treat for such people.

Located near Lake Coeur’ d Alene, in the American north, this log cabin is a true marvel. While its wooden design perfectly matches the surrounding area, the inside is a great mash of modern and rustic, meaning that it's tailor made for the 21st century person. Complete with a stunning view that will not disappoint from sunrise to sunset, this home is the poster child of getaway cabins.

Fits in like a glove

When placing a home like this into the wilderness, it's important that it blends right in. Nothing ruins a view more like a house that sticks out like a sore thumb. Luckily for us, the architects over at Uptic Studios, know just what they were doing, and made sure that every bit of the house felt like it belonged there. What's more, they were even ecological friendly, as the outside of the wall is made from recycled barn wood, giving the house an impressive one-two punch right out of the gate.

The slanted roof is a great idea, as it adapts to the fact that the house sits on the edge of a cliff. What's more, the front porch juts out in such a way, that it lets the house take full advantage of the stunning view. While the driveway does differentiate itself in both colour and material, it maintains the natural style that the house is going for, with its cool, granite look. As first impressions go, this is a definite hit. Luckily, it is just the first of many.

A porch for the ages

Front porches don't get any better than this. Along with the amazing view of the lake, it's also big enough for a lot of people, meaning that you don't have to be alone when you marvel at a sunset. While the majority of the porch is made from wood, the support structure is reinforced with black, metal railing. Rightly, the architects decided to make the railing as hidden as possible, using effective minimalist strategies. This also has the added bonus of making the light browns stand out even more.

The various chairs offer a great range of choice, and even add a splash of colour to the whole area. Despite that, whichever one you choose to occupy, you will no doubt be rewarded with an amazing reading experience, as the waves of the lake will wash your mind away to far distant lands. And finally, the blue lightbulbs will give the evening its own unique glow, ensuring that you can use this place 24/7. This is clearly a place that understands what its owners want, and gives it all to them.

The main room

Combining the living room and the kitchen is a standard move in minimalist architecture, and works to great effect in this house. With no wall separating the two rooms, the whole place has a very free and open feel to it, which is made further apparent thanks to the choice of colours. The home continues to follow the light colours/shades of brown palette that was set by the outdoors, and is helped in setting the right tone, thanks to the large windows that bring in plenty of natural light, giving the whole place a very lively feel.

All the furniture follows a similar colour style, which helps it to blend in with its surroundings. It is all very modern, and will no doubt make any person feel right at home. While there are no walls, the two rooms easily separate themselves, thanks to the white couch, which encloses the living room around the fireplace, acting as a natural barrier. Using the fireplace as the centre of the living room is a great idea, as it immediately catches the eye thanks to its distinct colour. With plenty of room to spread out, this area will no doubt be the source of a lot of fun memories.

Getaway cooking

Bringing a bit more focus onto the kitchen, we can see that it smoothly alternates between three different colours. The light brown shade of the ceiling, the white of the cabinets, and the stripey dark brown of the bottom. Each colour works well with the others, while giving each section its own unique look.

While the ceiling remains consistent throughout the house, the three lamps in the kitchen area give it a sort of rhythm, which is a little hidden secret that most won't notice, but gives the place a bit of charm. The off-white cabinets break up the two browns nicely, and help hide away the silver sheen of the modern appliances, making sure that they don't disturb the rustic feel of the place. They also provide a lot of usable space, saving you from any crazy clutter.

Finally, the dark wood counter draws your attention, and makes itself known as a place of action. It has plenty of space, meaning that multiple dishes can be cooked without too much fuss. The little table in the middle acts as a cozy spot for any meals and fits right in. From breakfast to dinner, and all the chats around coffee in-between, this place has your back.

Get washed away by nature

The bathroom backs away somewhat from the wooden, natural feel of the rest of the house, but still keeps it in spirit. This is due to the choice of colours, which remain very natural, as the counter mixes together different shades of brown, while the rest of the room uses a darker, granite colour. Standing out amongst all those mixtures of colours is the white sink, which is raised slightly so as not to splash too much of the counter.

The counter itself provides plenty of space, and even though there is only a single sink, there's enough room for multiple people to store their things. And those looking for more storage need only to look to the right, and find a handy cabinet for towels and such. While this room is on the smaller side, it is helped by a large mirror, which makes the room seem bigger, and by a light which brings out the life in the colours. After swimming in the lake all day, you'll need a place to clean up and this bathroom is more than up to the task.
