Autumn is finally here. It's time for warm beverages and all things pumpkin—and it's time for a new home design! Okay, maybe not an entirely new home design. Let's just focus on living rooms today. At any rate, it's time to take our cues from the changing leaves to up the ante in our home design.

Today on homify, we've gathered together the five best autumnal colours for your living room so you can properly welcome the change in seasons. What's different about this list is that we picked some of the more under-appreciated tones, yet each colour has its own unique charm and can work in a multitude of different interior design schemes.

So grab a pen and paper and get ready to bid summer adieu!

1. Khaki

Autumn is all about earth tones, and we're starting off this list with an amalgamation of them all! We have just about every shade of brown that we could imagine here–from light khaki to mahogany, to the deeper cherrywood beams.

We even have some of the warmer shades to accompany us here. We're talking about those red and mild yellow accents in the rug.

2. Plum

Plum isn't always what you think of when you think of autumn, but trust us, it's a great fit, and studying this plumy-chocolatey combo, you can see just how it's done. Plum is used as an accent in the sofa, while the chocolate tones occupy most of the styling.

Make sure you pair this deep and rich colour with lighter toned walls. You don't want to risk creating a dark and depressing space, which can happen with these powerful pigments.

3. Peach

Peach may seem like a spring colour, but when set in the right way, it really pulls off that fall vibe. Peach and pumpkiny shades of orange set the autumn mood. Unlike other fall colours, peach brightens a room much more and lifts it up.

You can use peach in either lighter or darker interiors, too, making this quite the versatile option for those of you who sway back and forth between styling ideas.

4. Mocha

Along with all things pumpkin, mocha shades really help us bring in the autumn spirit. Several rich shades of brown were used to create this space.

Dark browns with cream and orange accents make us feel like we're in a rustic, hip coffee bar, which is surprisingly welcomed.

5. What autumn list would be complete without…

Last up on the list is just what everyone was expecting–orange! Aside from evoking feelings of creativity and compassion, orange is the quintessential autumn colour, so of course we have to say a few words about it. It's also one of the more difficult colours to decorate with, which hinders quite a few from using it. But if you go subtle, like the living room we have here, then you should be good to decorate at your will.

Pick a few accent pieces instead of committing your entire living room to bright orange walls. Using a milder shade of orange also helps–just take a look at this burnt orange sofa. It's subdued enough to not overwhelm the eyes, but powerful enough to make a statement. Orange pairs quite well with brown tones, too, so try experimenting with the two. Any one of these colours would look great in any interior and will definitely help you to bring in that autumn spirit and keep it for the duration of the season.
