We also understand that you kind of have to do them, even when they seem boring, and that's why at homify we're all about giving you tips to make your life a little easier. So if you find yourself living out of the laundry hamper, or spending ten minutes every morning just trying to find a second sock, then today's list is for you.

We're going to look at some laundry hacks that will help you to keep on top of the laundry without getting overwhelmed, because by getting ahead you save yourself the stress and worry that procrastination inevitably leads to. With some simple laundry solutions, such as better storage and a few accessories, you'll find that you really don't mind chucking on a load of washing, and that you'll always have your clothes ready to wear when you need them.

1. Put everything in one place

Keep all of your laundry supplies together into one unit to ensure that you're never putting things off until later. To do this you'll need a single unit like this one, which includes laundry hampers, the washing machine, laundry detergent, and even a place to hang up clothes, meaning you don't even need to leave the unit to hang your washing up!

2. A washing hamper

For many of us the washing is an ever growing pile of clothes in the corner of the room. Apart from being very messy, this also means you're unlikely to keep track of just how big that pile has grown, and by the time it's washing day you have three or more loads to do! Getting yourself a washing hamper is a simple way to keep on top of this, and with a piece like this one, it will also look fantastic in your home. This way when it's full, you know it's time to do a load.

3. Keep your washing machine near your clothes

By incorporating your washing machine into your closet you eliminate one step in the job. This way you simply pull the clothes out of the dryer, and hang them straight up. It also helps to create a mental association between your clothing options and the laundry itself, which will ensure it never leaves your mind.

4. Sort out your wardrobe

If you're living out of your washing hamper, or simply rifling through a pile on the end of your bed, it can make laundry feel like more work than it needs to be. The solution is simple, sort out your wardrobe, and put everything in its place. Separate clothes according to function and season, making it clear what's available, and simplifying your life.

5. Plenty of shelving

Although we often tend to hide away our towels and linen it's important that they get plenty of air to stop them from becoming musty or damp. A good way to prevent this is to store them on open shelves, just make sure you have plenty, because we tend to accumulate a lot of linen over the years. This will also mean that everything is handy and tidy. If your linen cupboard is overstuffed and messy then this tip is definitely for you.

6. Dedicate a nook in your home

Many of us can't actually dedicate a full room to laundry, especially in these days of shrinking apartments and repurposed spaces. But, if it's possible, it's a really good idea to dedicate a part of your home to the laundry, so that you don't just forget all about it. Find any spare corner, or a nook like this one, and set it aside as a specific laundry area.

7. A laundry cupboard

If you don't have any nooks or corners to exploit in your home, then a custom cabinet is a great way to ensure you have still have a dedicated laundry. A large cupboard will ensure that you've got space for hampers and detergents, plus you can always close the doors and hide it away if you find it unsightly.

8. Keep the hamper right next to the washing machine

When the washing hamper is right next to the washing machine you won't think twice about throwing on a quick load of washing. A great way to do this is with a custom unit like this one, but proximity is the main concern here.

9. Ensure you have plenty of storage space

One of the biggest problems is often simply where to store everything, especially for all of you avid shoppers out there. Make sure that your wardrobe is big enough, and well ordered, and you'll reduce your workload immensely. Consider a walk-in wardrobe if possible, they're glamorous, fun, and super practical.

10. Place your appliances vertically

Make sure that you've got plenty of space for your washer and dryer by placing them vertically. A good way to do this is with a custom arrangement that will fit perfectly in your home, just talk to our homify experts!

11. Set up a clothes line

While many of us with limited space, especially in high rise apartments, tend to use a clothes horse, we suggest you throw it out; they're unwieldy and awkward, and they take up a lot of space. If you have any kind of small outdoor area, whether it's a balcony, or even just a porch, we suggest setting up a washing line. This will dry your clothes faster and ensure they don't smell musty as they are better exposed to air flow.

12. Ironing

While ironing may be one of our least favourite chores, it's crucial for staying on top of the washing. Apart from the fact that you'll never be embarrassed walking out of the house in a wrinkled shirt, it makes storage easier, and keeps your washing tidy.

See it's not so bad! All you need is a little know-how, and some creativity, and you'll never lose sleep over that massive laundry pile again. For more great lifestyle ideas try these great tips!
