There is nothing like escaping to the countryside. We all dream about it and we have perhaps at some point done it. A romantic weekend away or visiting friends in the country, imagining how peaceful and wonderful it would be to have our very own home in the countryside. The green scenery, the breathtaking landscape and that amazing fresh air which people living in the country never take for granted. It is precious and there is nothing like it. It is no wonder people in the old times used to travel to the countryside to recover from illness, just that fresh air is enough to regain some clean perspective.

A Spanish home

The red roof tiles are classic element of rural Mediterranean housing.  Even if this is a simple modern home with straight lines the roof and the stone terrace keep close to the original Spanish feeling of home building. It gives a touch of history to shine through. What is slightly unusual are the window shutters, in this case bright blue with a new simple design.

A landscape view

This view on its own is good enough reason to move to the countryside. It is spectacular and makes each morning worthwhile. The village of Mesão Frio is part of the wine-growing region of Alto Douro. Situated on a slope, the estate was built in a terrace-like setting in the middle of wine yards. The house is in a harmonious relationship with the rest of the surroundings and perfectly integrated into the nature aspect.

Rural simplicity

The small country home has a Mediterranean aspect about it but it is obviously still modern and new.  The stone wall remains in the line of rusticity and romantic country feeling whereas the house itself although keeping in line with colonial Portuguese design is fairly modern and simple.

The traditional setting

The house is situated in a semi-rural setting, surrounded by other homes with similar characteristics: the white plaster, blue window frames, the tiles on roofs are all elements that are repeated in accordance with local tradition. In this sense the house follows traditional ideas.

Blue doors

This blue color is vivid and makes a deep contrast to the stone walls. It is modern and lively. The landscape architects have managed to leave the original aspects of the surroundings while creating something new.

White simplicity

The house stands out because of the perfect white color among the grey tones surrounding it. The houses stand close together however it doesn't feel ovecrowded.  When one resides in the country the landscape is different and so is the feeling that accompanies it. Nothing is cramped together even if in reality close by. That is the part of rural charm.

Enough space for leisure walks

The back of the house has a charming prospect. Shady trees and green bushes and pathway made for those morning or afternoon leisure strolls.
