Ever wish you could escape the city and take up residence in the vibrant seclusion of the jungle in the style of the Swiss Family Robinson? Well thanks to Argentina's IR Arquitectura, now you can! Constructed primarily of bamboo, this amazing abode comes straight from the pages of a fantasy novel, with its simple design elevated by a bed of sturdy stilts, creating the effect of a bamboo box jutting out from a shallow hillside.

The home's walls are lined with strong gauze to protect against an influx of insects, while a thatched roof of dried leaves keeps it dry during the tropical wet season. The entire space is surrounded by lush greenery, providing a picturesque atmosphere for reclusive yet adventurous living.

The interior presents an inventive design, with wooden furnishings used to complement the caramel tones of the home's bamboo skeleton, and the living area is bordered by simple wooden benches so that there is always a vantage from which to relax with a book or enjoy some bird-watching. The kitchen is charming and simple, with a modern bench housing a gas stove and oven to cover the cooking basics. Large tiles in subdued tones line the floor, while the ceiling has been painted black, creating a dark colour contrast that highlights the home's bamboo skeleton as it streams overhead.

This special dwelling demonstrates the diverse options available for modern living when designers think outside the box. Take a tour below and daydream about your own jungle getaway!

Strong bamboo frame

The exterior of the home combines the fortitude of a strong bamboo frame with the softer finishes of the dried leaves adorning the roof and the translucent gauze of the walls. The bamboo pylons have been beautifully crafted, fitting together seamlessly to create the boxy shape of the abode, then running downwards to crest atop steel stilts which anchor the entire structure into a hillside.

A large space has been left beneath to accommodate running water during the tropical wet season in order that the home doesn't wash away in a torrent or mudslide.

The furnishings blend beautifully throughout the space, with wood used to construct simple, elegant pieces that subtly complement the home's decor and colour scheme. Wooden benches border the walls, providing ample room for seating, and a tripartite dining table has been included for functionality and casual entertaining.
