Everyone fears renovating their home on a tight budget. What if you don't manage it or run out of money before the job is completed. And what if you are living in the basement and you need to renovate it? Basement is never popular and people associate it with darkness. But that does not have to be the truth at all. There are plenty of ways to renovate or redesign your basement even on a limited budget and still make your new home look spectacular. Nobody would even notice what kind of budget you had to begin with. Ikea for instance has excellent, durable, worthwhile products to be considered which can make your home look amazing.

We take example of two rooms approximately 16 square meters in total belonging to a newly married couple and how after knocking a wall down as well as part of the ceiling to maker big space and allow more light they choose to decorate their new home. Besides structural reconstruction design, we take a look at the change in the functional design. You will be impressed with the results!

Before and after

The room on the left was over cluttered and overcrowded with too many objects which made it seem as the kind of basement where one simply stows things away forgetting all about them. On the right side we see immediate comparison and how different it appears now.

Bright and roomy

The overall effect is wonderful. You would never think that this was a basement. There is so much light coming through since Interior architects choose to knock out the wall and part of the ceiling so that the room is shown larger due to open space. There is a feeling of freshness coming through and comfort.

Map of the new design plan

The plan shows us how the new apartment should look like. The basement is turned into a cozy apartment.

Living room

Here we have a corner made to be an office and also a small sofa with a table for relaxing periods which is the living room. Decorations made with easy to install Ikea shelves for that modern, youthful and stylish ambiance.

Seperating rooms

We see there are no doors separating rooms but there is a wall where the television is which is the living room and on the right side we see a glimpse of the bedroom. Decorating on a budget doesn't mean buying cheap. One just has to have a good eye for detail and an excellent plan on how to decorate. Simple bookcase, lots of color, beaming lights and friendly atmosphere is created easily. It is all about mixing and matching.

Study area

This could be office or study area and it is the use of color which makes it brilliant. In order to make the room look bigger and brighter, most of the walls are painted ivory except this wall which is bright yellow creating that morning fresh appeal like the sunshine is in the room. The floors are decorated with light wood and the green plants are placed in the corner, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

Bedroom

We see the state of the bedroom before and after. There is not much to be said except it was in definite need of renovation! Just the curtains had to go and we see the new bed is minimalist and modern.

Curtain instead of the door

There are no doors but the curtains serve a good purpose separating the areas. Just a sweep and a pull and you can still have some privacy and it really doesn't cost that much to install a curtain instead of a door!

Dressing room

On a limited budget we can still have a corner where we keep our dressing room. It might not be a wardrobe but it is fresh, young and functional. The bright yellow is the perfect tone for the basement driving away any silly ideas of darkness or dampness!

Hallway

Although tiny the entrance hallway is stylish. Brick walls, wooden floors and stone sculpture create a rustic appeal so that the couple can feel at home.
