Nowadays, when small kitchens are equipped with practical ideas, they can be turned into kitchens that respond to all of our needs and requests without needing an enormous space to do it all in. Particularly in newly constructed houses, kitchens are kept small so that the other rooms can be wider. Practical ideas have made small kitchens more usable, especially in terms of  functional furniture and special hanging systems. And let's not forget about the mind-boggling and innovative storage solutios that small kitchens have to offer.

Today on homify, we are getting you ready to up the ante in your home by looking at practical kitchens that do away with the functionality problems of the past. By reviewing these kitchens, you can get an idea of how you can develop your kitchen with equally functional features. And don't just stop at one–each of these ideas has it's own way of making your life easier, but when combined, well then you might even feel like you're being spoiled.

1. Drawer molds

Since the drawers in our house are generally used as empty spaces or even junk drawers, average drawers offer nothing in the way of easing up our lives–that is, until we add a little something. By creating wooden molds for the drawers where you will keep the plates (especially the fragile ones), you will have a more organised placement and you don't have to worry about chipping plates when stacking, as the molds provide a nice buffer between sets.

2. Wall design

Built-in kitchens are generally manufactured and installed in standard designs, but you can have a handy kitchen like the one in this image by calling a kitchen planner. They will take accurate measurements of your kitchen and design a wall unit that fits all of your needs. This kitchens answers all of your needs, as well as design aesthetics.

3. Jars

For kitchen spices and jars that we often use, you can create a special space in your cabinet design and keep the jars lined up in there. This creates a small and nonabrasive open-shelving unit. From this point of view, your kitchen cabinet will be magnificent and your counter space will be free and clear and ready to prep your next meal on.

4. Mobile workbenches

When guests are welcomed, your kitchen counter is be so full of food and various items needed to make your famous home-cooked meal that it just won't be enough space to do it all on. The ideal solution in this case is to mount mobile workbenches on the kitchen counter so you can have even more chopping and peeling space.

5. Separating is key

If you do not have special molds for the drawers to keep your spoon, knife and fork set, your cutlery is just going to get buried underneath itself. What's worse, you might even hurt yourself reaching in for a fork and you accidentally graze your steak knife. In this case, you should choose special wooden molds like we see here. Knives are kept safely in a wooden butcher block, while spoons, spices, bottle openers, and even mobile phones can be sectioned off in different units.

6. For the counter top

Special designs for kitchen counter tops can be used to keep things like the plates and serving spoons you use the most in an easy-to-reach place.

7. Special shelves

Shelves are the indispensable decoration in all kitchens. In this kitchen design, extensive open shelving is used instead of closed cabinets. Not only is it a cute way to display your home-made jams and spices, it will make the cooking process that much faster because you don't have to open and close every cabinet you have looking for the right ingredient.

8. Racks

Since there aren't enough storage areas for larger tools in the kitchen, you can keep these items up, out of the way, and ready for use with a few racks or hangers. Match the racks with your kitchens wall colour for a floating effect, or give it a pop of colour for interesting contrast.

So now that we've got you covered on functionality, you might also like to know how you can make your small kitchen more aesthetically pleasing.
