This work by Hans Jacobs and the architectural team at Cubus Projekt GMBH is functional, spacious and aesthetically pleasing. Its design has resulted in the harmony of glass and timber materials in a formation that makes the structure seem weightless. The large windows also help to reveal the beautiful surrounding natural scenery. Its design is modern and features a spacious open plan layout. The ground floor features a bathroom and two children’s bedrooms. The freestanding fireplace serves as a divider between the living room and dining area. Climb the floating staircase and you will see the master bedroom and bathroom, which are fused together through an open design. The second story window opens out to an extraordinary view. The timber used in its construction makes the space feel warm and inviting. It is a true family home.  Come along as we take a tour of the Jacob House!

Mod façade

The house has the backward S-shape that is Cubus Projekt GMBH’s trademark. Here, this unique shape allows for a spacious terrace on the second floor. Further, the large windows allow for ample natural light and marvellous views of the outdoors. The façade is constructed with red cedar and grey patina. Its natural materials are environmentally sustainable.

The wonders of an open-plan

The first floor opens into a spacious open plan. This room is filled with natural light, and the greenery of the exterior acts as a lovely backdrop, almost like a work of art in itself. The corner sofa helps to keep the room spacious while giving the living area some definition from other parts of the house. This space is perfect for family time.

State of the art kitchen

Additionally, the open-plan yields to a kitchen. Here it is the vertical shelving unit that helps to maximise space and the island that gives the kitchen definition from the rest of the first floor. The shiny chrome appliances are sleek and modern just as they ought to be in a house as innovative in design as this one.

The perfect space for productivity

On the second storey we are met with this a minimalist home office. The interior corresponds to the rest of the home through its white and timber colour palette. Again, we see the way that the natural surroundings are thoughtfully incorporated into the interior as the green trees act as the principal colour accent in the space. The visual presence of nature and the overall airiness of this high-ceilinged room make the home office ideal for concentration and creativity.

Tranquil bathroom

The master bathroom is bright and lush. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a sense of continuity with the trees and vegetation outside. Imagine how pleasant it must be to listen to a soft rainfall or the birds chirping outside as this couple readies themselves for the day. The large window helps to compound the light. This master bathroom is directly connected to the master bedroom in the second storey's semi-open plan.

Bright and sunny bedroom

In the master bedroom, the muted green colour accents and taupe bedspread work wonderfully with the forest-theme featured wall and warm timber tones of the floor. It’s as if the design slowly morphed with its inspiring natural setting, and we love it! The ambiance is cheerful, bordering on ethereal. From its weightless façade to the abundant natural lighting of the interior, this house is lightness in every sense of the word.
