With the passage of time styles inevitably become dated, and home’s require maintenance and even some remodelling due to the natural wear and tear that occurs over the years. However, there’s definitely something to be said for a home with soul; an aged character that gives the property real identity and warmth. In fact, retro style is quite popular, with many people now striving toward creating nostalgic feelings through their homes décor, but without losing the comfort that modern homes provide.
Today we’re taking a look at a home remodel by interior designers, Chakra Design. The dated dwelling has been given a much needed update, but through the application of quaint country style mixed in with a touch of modern design, the home has kept a retro character. Let’s take a look…
The lovely living room exudes warmth! The rich colour of the wooden flooring combined with the warm colours of the sofa set and the beautiful beams in the ceiling give the space a very welcoming, homey feel. The antique style furnishings and accents are blended with a few key modern features—such as the spotlights than run along to the ceiling – to provide a retro feel with modern amenities.
Here we have a look at the living room as it was before on the left, and the result following the remodel on the right. Prior to the transformation the living room had a slightly monotonous feel to it, with nothing that really made the space stand out; a stark contrast to the room on the right that exudes character.
The original stairs were looking a little stale and ever so slightly rundown with nothing to invigorate the space. The saving grace of the space was the attractive wooden banister, which the designers expanded upon by bringing more of the same rich wood into the rest of the design; creating a beautiful colour contrast against the white walls.
This beguiling bedroom is boldly decorated in rich, warm colours that contrast with the white ceiling. The beautiful, modern ceiling design with its recesses and strip lighting work wonderfully with the antique style furniture to create a warm and welcoming, but incredibly elegant space.
In this bedroom we find a slightly different style, as the room has more of a rural, country feel to it.
There’s an enviable amount of space in the open-plan kitchen/dining room. The modern, practical kitchen is neatly confined to one wall of the room, freeing up loads of space for the elegant, country dining space.
If you’re in the mood for more brilliant before and after transformation take a look at how this Venezuelan home went from virtually derelict to very impressive.
