In many of the world’s larger cities space is becoming an increasingly valuable commodity as the population increases and urban centres become more and more developed, making smaller and perhaps more affordable homes an attractive option.

Luckily, style is not dependant on size, and a smaller city apartment can be the ideal living solution for young city-dwelling professionals.

With this in mind today we’re taking a trip to Russia, to tour a stunning studio apartment made especially impressive by its area of only thirty-one square metres! Let’s take a look…

Superb use of space

Turning now to face the rest of the apartment we can appreciate how well the area has been used with extra seating attached to the wall so as not to take up space, and more importantly, a kitchen that’s neatly confined to one small corner of the apartment.

A dark dining room

We start our tour in the heart of the home, where we find an unusual but attractive dining area. It’s fairly impressive in itself that the limited space has been used so economically by the architects that a dining table can be incorporated into the design; despite the small size this apartment still ticks all the boxes. The unconventional colour choice for the table and light fixture above blends into the apartment’s décor by matching other areas of the home, but simultaneously makes the dining area stand out amongst its immediate surroundings; differentiating the space and making the room appear larger by distinctly separating the areas.

Space for work and relaxation

Adjacent to the dining area we have the living room and study, where a large sofa serves to divide the space – as well as providing a comfortable space to relax – and a Scandinavian style study sits neatly against the wall. From the dining area to the study there’s a seamless transition between the spaces that are simultaneously well defined as distinct areas of the home. Large windows ensure that there’s plenty of natural light permeating through the home, reflected from the light wooden floor and white walls to brighten the space and make it feel a little larger.

A beautiful bedroom nook

The bedroom space feels separate from the rest of the apartment thanks to a partition wall that encloses the bed into a cosy little nook, and long drapes that make the area entirely private. There’s even some handy extra storage incorporated into the space thanks to the pullout drawers under the bed, but the most attractive element of the design has to be the fantastic gallery wall of framed photographs.

A compact space that’s full of character

The home’s style is hard to define, with Scandinavian elements as well as hints of industrial design in the form of the dark brick wall in the kitchen. However, the home has a strong character of its own, with unique furnishings such as the beautiful, ornate mirror that runs almost the entire height of the wall and the wireframe chandelier that hangs above the living room.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our tour of this terrific little home. If you’re in the mood for more amazing space-saving design then take a look at this amazing modern apartment.
