Today we’re taking a look at a brilliant Brazilian apartment by K + S Associated Architects. The home is a fairly modest size at sixty square metres, but it exudes such style that it has an air of grandeur surpassing what you may expect from such a property.

The two-bedroom home was designed for a young single person, with the intention of conveying a youthful personality, while simultaneously creating a welcoming environment with a style that won’t become dated. Let’s take a look…

The living room is practically flawless…

In the lounge we find the same unifying colour scheme of contrasting neutral tones that works to bring the apartment together, as well as the aforementioned exposed brick wall that brings a strong stylistic element to the décor. A large sofa provides comfortable seating where the occupant can relax and watch the wall-mounted television, and a specially designed bench lines the rest of the space providing loads of storage as well as ample seating for larger gatherings. Meanwhile, the space feels much larger than it is thanks to the wall-to-wall window that ensures the apartment is flooded with natural light.

A refined industrial style

The impressive open-plan apartment is made up of a mixture of styles; design elements such as the exposed brick wall along the living room and galvanized metal light fixtures cement the home’s style as industrial, but the theme is subtle and interspersed with balancing elements such as the beautiful parquet floor that brings an air of refinement to the space.

Second to none storage

The master bedroom is essentially quite minimalist in its design, with the dramatic high contrast colour scheme adorning the space in place of a plethora of accents and furnishings. However, there’s a fantastic amount of storage space thanks to overhead cabinets running the entire length of the room, as well as two large wardrobes at either side of the window.

The small but stylish bathroom

The bathroom is quite compact, but it feels spacious thanks to the sizable mirror and bright white surfaces, besides, it contains everything you need; the designers even fitting in plenty of storage under the washbasin.

A warm and welcoming dining area

Upon leaving the bedroom a small hallway takes us to the dining area with a circular wooden table and Scandinavian style seating. The abundance of wood brings a warm, natural element to the design, and a circular design for the table is more conducive to conversation; creating an inviting and relaxed environment.

A kitchen with character

The kitchen makes a big impact—despite its small size—due to its eye-catching and ornate industrial style light fixtures and dramatic black colour scheme. With the exception of the ceiling and the floor of porcelain-like concrete, the entire space has been painted black, which seems counterintuitive given that light colours are typically used to enhance small spaces. However, black can actually work too as it blurs edges and lines making the space appear less restricted.
