The eclectic style can be defined as a selection of various other styles. It is a collection of elements taken from different sources and blended together in an intricate and defining way. This doesn’t mean that it’s an easy style to pull off, though. Simply taking elements and randomly placing them together just isn’t enough.
But the designers at U Style Design Studio have created an interior that is the quintessential eclectic style. Today on homify, we are taking you to Moscow, Russia to take a tour of an incredibly distinctive family home. Inspired by the vivid colours of the region of Provence, France, this home gets its inspiration from the area’s purple lavender fields, lavish green vineyards, exuberant yellow ochre, and deep blues past the coastline of Côte d’Azur that will keep you enraptured during the entire tour.
Enough talk, let’s take the tour!
Although the home itself is rather small compared to some of the other family homes we’ve showed you, it doesn’t mean that the space is lacking in style. The furniture and decorations were organized in such a way that each square metre of the space was properly utilized and subsequently allowing the space to feel bigger than it actually is. The living area shares its space with the dining room, which creates an open floor plan.
The central stylistic element of the living area is the giant colourful horse painting on the rear wall. The striking and evocative blue, yellow, red, green and purple conjure up emotion and thought and add personality to the space. To complement the painting, the designers at U Style Design Studio added a comfy blue couch adorned in blue, yellow, and white accent pillows.
Moving past the living room, we find ourselves in the same space, but facing the dining room. It is very important to be moderate when creating contrasts and a balanced design in the eclectic style home, and as we can see from this image, the perfect balance was created in this space. Going from the elaborately decorated living room to this minimally adorned area gives the entire space just the right balance.
The dining room table is elegant and the accompanying chairs are upholstered in two styles: cerulean blue for the seats, while the backs display a floral pattern. The blue and floral pattern complements the sofa and painting of the adjacent living room. The enormous window taking up almost the entire wall provides plentiful natural light, while the fixtures above the dining room table illuminate the space at night and add a very modern element.
As we go into the next room, we enter the kitchen. What we notice right away is that this room has a distinct colour theme – red and white, of course. Designers have to be very careful when decorating with the colour red, especially when it’s a bright, bold red on walls. But as we can see here, only the tile backsplash behind the sink, the curtains, and the chairs are decorated in red. Only subtle uses of this red warms and brightens the space without taking over the whole kitchen.
To complete the kitchen design, U Style Design Studio chose to implement stone floors, wooden countertops, and white cabinets, and the circular copper lights above the table adds to the eclectic vibe of the home.
Even in the kid’s room, we can expect to find nothing less than superb interior design. Although the décor is quite minimal, it gives off quite the elated vibe. The contrast and variety in this room show in the juxtaposition of the chic hard wood floors and classic style drapes with the colourful elements of the room, defining the eclectic interior.
The abstract elephant painting on the wall complements the painting of the horse we saw in the living room. Coordinating in style and even with a similar colour palette, the painting brings life to the room, along with a wild element. The yellow accent wall just underneath the painting, along with the yellow and green accent pillows on the small sofa, add even more colour.
The master bedroom showcases something different from the rest of the home. Where we previously saw bright, vibrant colours, we now have more mild hues and more of a minimalist décor. Again, this is all part of a well designed eclectic home. The mixture of different interior design schemes throughout the home is exactly what defines eclecticism.
The hard wood floors and soft golden yellow accent walls provide the room with an almost country style flair. We see artwork in this room, as well, but it’s not like what we have seen in the living room or in the kid’s room. This piece of art is more somber in its style, providing the bedroom with a relaxed atmosphere. Opposite the intricate bookshelves and dresser we have the wardrobe dressed in white to match the other side.
On our last stop on the tour, we are taking you to the bathroom. Aside from the intricate blue floor and wall tiling, there is very little decoration in this room – which is a good thing. After all, as one of the smallest rooms in the home, you never want your bathroom to be overcrowded with decoration. The colour white was used in this room to create an extensive looking space, and large mirror aids in this endeavor. Because this space is so small, the inhabitants of this home were given more than adequate storage space above the toilet and underneath the sink. And what’s more, the storage space style differs – above the toilet, we have average cabinets with doors, while underneath the sink, we have an open shelving option, which, as we can see, is perfect for storing laundry baskets.
