Buying or making accessories for your home can be similar to buying clothes: you buy more and more for each season and each special occasion, yet still feel like you have nothing to wear when you really think about it. Whether or not this is true isn't the point—the point is that if you buy great quality products that have a certain uniqueness to them, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place.

Minimalist accessories are the solution to this problem. You can find them mass-produced, yet unique—made of quality materials, yet cheap and often they're easy to find, yet still local and artisan. The key is that they should be versatile and carry you through every season, dinner party and interior mood change you might encounter!

Minimalist accessories can afford to be both unique and standard, all the while keeping things quirky and never, ever boring. We have figured out the top, six interior trends for minimalist accessories that we think you should try this year—check out our list and give it a go!

The brown 'sac'

If you're ever in the market for interesting potted plant holders, then why not skip the pot or vase altogether and opt for an incredibly eco-friendly option that's also super cute! This Brown Sac is made from 100% recyclable paper, and is biodegradable when you've decided you're finished with it.

But here's an even better idea, when one sac becomes too over-used—wet it down and mix it into a new dirt mixture, then add that to a new bag and a new plant for fertilization! Voila—a never-ending cycle of fresh potting soil and ZERO waste! These sacs will look great with any type of plants or flowers you have—and especially a cactus, as pictured here. The brown sac is definitely the most interesting paper item we've seen in a while!

Wall hanging

Wall hangings have been around for quite some time but have recently emerged as the new 'must-have' trend. Now, thanks to a multitude of bloggers and Instagram stars jumping on the bandwagon, they are super easy to find and their intricacy and beauty are being taken to the next level. Studio {Hammel} produces some of our favourite wall hangings featured on our site and their designs just keep getting better.

Wall hangings can look great anywhere, whether in a living room space, kitchen, dining room, or especially a children's playroom! Perhaps the best part about wall hangings is that they can vary in size, from the small sizes you see here to larger sizes that can cover an entire wall. How amazing would a large wall hanging look behind a great Danish-style couch?!

The one, unique piece

Having that one unique piece is something you should probably do in every room in your home. Your bedroom can have a unique piece, so can your kitchen and your dining room!  So, we've chosen a unique design that can work in any room of your home: a hanging plant holder!

Boho-style hanging plants have become all the rage recently as they can give those boring, standard ceramic or terracotta holders a new lease of life.  Consider how this potted Pothos plant would look just sitting on the ledge in this pot!  When you add some intricately connected yarn or wool and some colourful metal pieces, this becomes a game changer! String plant holders are very versatile, as they can adapt to hold many different sized pots. You can even make these yourself for a great weekend DIY project!

Concrete vases

The thought of a concrete vase is an interesting concept as it is. Designers have specifically worked this material to be able to properly handle flowers and plants by hollowing out the interior and replacing it with metal or plastic lining. Now that we know the weight is manageable, we can start planting! Concrete vases can handle soil and water, but for a super minimal look with easy maintenance, we suggest you choose a single flower, or a smaller bouquet of flowers with water for a fresh, weekly look!

This designer really makes this geometric-style concrete vase stand out by staining parts of it to give it a marble effect—and we love it! Looking for a quirky plant holder? Check these out!

Calendar

Calendars, planners and diaries have been a key element in Nordic life as well as Dutch life for quite some time. Heavily dependent upon keeping a close schedule that allows for equal parts work and fun time, these cultures can definitely teach us a thing or two!

Adding a calendar to your home is one of the greatest ways to provide both great design and utilitarian function. We suggest for the sake of your family and friends that you place your calendars in a communal area where everyone can be made aware of plans well ahead of time. To make a calendar part of your minimalist decor—choose a calendar similar to the one seen here—think bold, stark colours and large-print typography for maximum cool points!

Graphic prints

Lastly, monochromatic graphic prints are a great item to add to your home, especially if you like Scandinavian, minimalist or modern design. You really should choose such items from smaller, online boutiques, or better yet, local graphic artists. As a lot of graphic artists work freelance, they are always willing to throw together a great poster-sized print for a chunk of change. It will be an original design that is guaranteed to get the conversation started at any dinner party.

The best part about graphic prints is what you will notice in this example—typically you can mix more than one style, colour or size together to create a mix'n'match feature wall of outstanding hyper-modern art.
