There are lots of reasons to cultivate a garden in the yard. Plants help to purify the air, and regular immersion in nature holds immense benefits. Exposure to natural scenery has been proven to improve concentration, creativity, and calmness. Plus, gardening helps us to become more connected with the cycles of life, and you might even get some tasty home grown vegetables out of the endeavour. When planning to plot a garden, it can help to get a bit of inspiration first.

That’s why today we will be exploring a gorgeous home in Seoul by Gallery Be that has a lovely courtyard garden and koi pond to boot. The serene, natural elements of the home offer an oasis against the backdrop of a bustling city.

Glowing courtyard

From the courtyard we can see that the home is nestled in an urban area yet it holds the promise of escape from the hectic life of the city.

Inside the home glows gold under the outdoor lighting, and the saplings—even without leaves—add an earthy feel. There are two large sliding glass doors leading out to this pleasant space.

Sunny kitchen

Thanks to the strategically placed windows, the kitchen is illuminated with an abundance of cheerful sunlight. The use of white and timber helps to make the room feel even more inviting.

The handle-less cupboards and cabinets blend with the white walls, which ultimately makes the room look more spacious. There are also some floating shelves above the counters for storing items that the family uses more regularly.

Simple dining

When we shift our orientation around to face the dining table we can see that this area is also quite minimal in design, but there are a few decorative elements worth noting.

For one, the multi-toned wooden cupboards on the back wall certainly make a statement amidst the simplicity of the rest of the space. We also love the use of mismatched dining chairs to create a homier feel in the dining area.

Functional family room

The family room is equipped with plenty of shelf storage for housing books, records, and DVDs. It is an unpretentious space bearing many hallmarks of Korean interior design.

The use of light colour tones and timber, for instance, is a classic aspect of this decorative scheme. The glass topped coffee table helps to create the illusion of extra floor space.

A spot for social activity

Now, let’s have a look at that marvellous courtyard garden we told you about. This little sitting area is the perfect spot to enjoy a warm day amidst lush flowers and plants.

The garden is mostly situated at the perimeter of the courtyard, which helps to create a stronger sense of privacy from the neighbours.

Serene koi pond

As if the garden alone wasn’t relaxing enough, the design team also added this beautiful koi pond. Between the listening to the trickle of water in the pond and gazing at the little orange fish, it would certainly be difficult to remain stressed out for long. What a lovely addition!
