In last fifty years or so, the popularity of Scandinavian architecture and design has grown by leaps and bounds. Simple and clear forms without any ambiguity and an economical use of available space are features that are seen frequently in the modern houses worldwide.

Pioneering designs by the likes of Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Eero Saarinen and Hans Wegner were also instrumental in making this style so popular and accessible to all. The house you are going to see today carries on this illustrious legacy. Come with us as begin our survey of Villa Solitude.

Villa Solitude is located in the Bavarian region of Germany. The two storey building has a living area of 161 square metres. It was built using a prefabricated structure, which is another way of curbing the costs of building a house from scratch. Installation of these types of structures also takes least amount of time. For prospective homeowners, these come as real blessings.

The house was built by Danhaus Gmbh, a company that boasts four decades of experience in dealing with Nordic architecture and design. The firm is also renowned for building energy efficient structures as well as providing affordable housing solutions.

The interior is tastefully decorated without any trace of disorganisation. It is as comfortable and cheerful as you want your home to be. Classy décor, an interplay of subtle colours and the use of wood for flooring and furniture define the interior of this bedroom.

It literally shines under the generous blessings of the sunlight. The bedroom is stylised with a contemporary cot, nightstand, dresser and rocking chair. It has access to a small balcony, which is also decorated in a graceful style. Unsurprisingly, you can see the modish lighting fixtures that keep the space illuminated after evening sets in. Fresh flowers arranged in big vases brighten up the space even further.

This is a dream kitchen for all those who love to cook and put a lot of effort into honing their skills. It is spacious, uncluttered, simple to maintain and cheery. It gets more than enough natural sunlight all day long, but ceiling mounted lighting is on hand to keep the kitchen bright and homey even on gloomier days.

Though nearly all white, the slight change in shades increases its charm. Laminated work and table tops are responsible for giving the room a chic feel. The photographic wallpaper on the feature wall adds an element of surprise—is that a wall or a window?!

Dining room

In this space we see an even closer rapport with nature. This is a major characteristic of Scandinavian design. Potted plants, an organic area rug, the simple wooden dining table and chic chairs increase the style quotient manifold.

Note the Seppo Koho pendant lighting fixtures for Secto Design—they're a piece of art in themselves. It seems that a few deft brushstrokes have totally transformed the interior of this dining room.

Living room

A part of the living room is visible from here. The vibrant feature wall looks stunning enough. A simple but stylish TV cabinet and shelves help to resolve some of the storage problems. Blue chairs also beautify the space, along with a monochromatic sofa and oval coffee table.

Unlike in any other part of the house, a stronger contrast in colours is seen in the bathroom. Dark blue creates an impressive contrast with white walls and sanitary fittings. Tiled flooring also shows variety in colour, pattern and texture.

Additionally, the space is decorated with a few photographs, potted plants and fresh flowers. No doubt that living here would be a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the owners of the house.

Worried about the cramped bathroom space of your home? To build a more organised small bathroom, consider using some of these storage solutions.
