More often than ever, quaint cottages and unpretentious beach houses are being replaced with modern architectural masterpieces. The beauty of this trend lies in the fact that homeowners can live in sophisticated, trendy abodes with the amenities they're used to whilst also experiencing all the benefits of being immersed in the outdoors. Due to their simple, balanced appearances, these chic modern structures actually look quite at home in their natural surrounds.
One place where this trend is evident is in Catalonia. Today, we will be exploring one such home by architect Simon Garcia that is located on a steep hillside overlooking the Mediterranean. The view alone makes this place truly remarkable, but the architectural excellence evident in its design is what makes it worth visiting. We hope you’ll join us for a tour of this modern Catalonian villa!
The home’s design takes full advantage of the phenomenal location. Each storey of the home features enormous glass picture windows, and there is a balcony on second floor where the inhabitants can get an even better look at their surroundings.
The home and patio are built in descending levels, which demonstrates the architect’s ability to successfully integrate the home with its landscape.
Here, we can get a more intimate view of the patio area. There are some squat deck chairs situated in front of the pool for comfortably enjoying this picturesque scenery.
There are no obstructions between the pool and the level below, which gives the landscaping a seamless minimalist characteristic of modern design. Can you think of a better place to watch the sunset?
The interior is equally modern. It is bathed in plenty of natural light, which emanates in from the large picture windows that line the entire right hand side of the space.
The first floor is organised in an open plan layout, and each area flows succinctly into the next. The furnishings are streamlined and the kitchen countertops are made of stainless steal, another common trend within the modern look.
This bathroom is truly spectacular. The textured black walls, which are made of hexagonal tiles, look dazzling beneath the glow of purple hued lights.
To balance these powerful colour tones, the majority of the bathroom furnishings are white. The custom bathtub is situated in front of a large window that faces the water below, making it the ideal place to unwind.
The balcony extends from this striking red, black, and tan bedroom. Here, the family has an even better view of the water and surrounding cliffs.
With exclusive access to the balcony only available through the bedrooms, this spot is also more intimate than the patio below. The glass railings used for the balcony keep these views unobstructed from inside the bedrooms, too.
For larger gatherings, the patio also includes this cosy little setup. The multi-level deck is a testament to the phenomenal use of space evident in this home’s design. Further, the inbuilt LED lighting on the stairways is exemplary for anyone looking to acquire an improved outdoor lighting scheme.
It may seem like an architectural team couldn't go wrong when designing a home on such a gorgeous property. Yet, Simon Garcia certainly went above and beyond by perfectly maximising the space to fit so many wonderful features.
