J2H Architects are based out of Seoul, South Korea, and specialise, well, in creating super special houses, meaning homes that really stand out from the rest.

The designs are modern and therefore use lots of natural materials, like unprocessed woods and cleanly buffed stone.

We'll also show you this house from afar, so you can really get the gist of how distinctive it is in its environment.

Pretty wood and picture frame windows

The impressive, up-close majesty of this house's design really shines forth here—four floors tall with striped vertical shingles and two tones of natural woods: a knotty dark pine on the sides and a hard rosewood on the front A-frame.

The depth of dimension of this design can be seen by look at its outside windows, which are of various sizes, and set to varying degrees of depth into the actual walls. Some are inset, while other are set out as if they were picture frames hung on the outside of the house—a pretty cool idea.

That house sure stands out

Our house is the tall central one made of bright cherry wood with a bright white roof. We can see from this view that the house has been built a whole two floors taller than its neighbours, ensuring its inhabitants enjoy the best views without being blocked by the surrounding crowd.

Lastly, the bright white, sloped roof is unique in this neighbourhood, whose houses boast mostly flat roofs. The benefit of this steep, A-frame shape is that this roof is sure to last longer, since snow and rain just slide right off, and a whole extra floor on the inside has additionally been created.

Of course there is a loft

This left side of the third and fourth floors show the designers have really optimised every leftover inch of the house, putting a spacious loft in the tall A-frame, as well as a wooden walking path suspended between the two.

All in all, this floor could almost be an apartment in itself, boasting two floors, two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a living area.

The right side loft

This is the other side of the floor in the previous picture. We can see that the loft area stretches the length of the house in the apex of the A-frame, and has enough ceiling space to fit a bookshelf!

Skylights and large rectangle windows again really show off the simple and clean lines of the inner architecture.

Kitchens are simple

This kitchen's design may look effortless, but that is because all of the strain of creation has been wiped out by the easy atmosphere resultant from the organic materials—it is modern Asian minimalism at its finest. In this spirit, J2H have made it all about the simple woods and the lighting—natural and non—especially in this kitchen.

The accent wall of wood has been done painstakingly well, with three horizontal columns of warm strips of different woods, showcased at night with soft spotlights and reflected fully in day with several square, outset windows.

A space for book lovers

The final spot in this house is in the basement, and is sure to make any book lover dewey eyed with delight, because it is a library—like, a real library. The walls have multi-toned woods set in thin, horizontal strips that we bet smell as warm as they look. While there are a few windows bearing natural light in the room off to the left, this main library space's lack of windows has been adequately compensated for with muted fluorescents—just like you would find in a library—so you can peruse the stuffed bookshelves easily.

What to love most about this house is difficult to sum up, but we would say that the stellar carpentry throughout really makes it one of the cosiest homes we've seen in a while. If you are also a fan of intricate wood-working in homes, we recommend looking at some of these singular projects.
