The first step is the most difficult because it starts with a battle with our inner weaker self. But today there are no excuses. So: Get your butt off the couch, turn off the TV and let's go. We set our stopwatch and give ourselves ten minutes to prepare everything and equip ourselves with the necessary tools, devices and utensils. Important accomplices in the next three hours are vacuum cleaners, mops, cloths and rags, sponges, brushes and various cleaning products, a bucket with lukewarm water and a feather duster.
Before we look at the rooms individually, we first have to do some general tidying up. Over the next 40 minutes, we go through every room and remove any items that are not in the desired location. Clothes that fly around go either in the laundry or back in the closet, used dishes are put in the dishwasher, what is no longer needed ends up in the trash, books go back on the shelf, etc. In this way, we have created an initial sense of order. We can clean without being disturbed and immediately feel much more motivated.
The next half hour belongs to the living room. Here we first dust and vacuum. The best way to do this is to first remove the coarsest crumbs with a handheld vacuum cleaner and then use the feather duster to do the finishing touches. Don't forget often neglected corners, shelves and table surfaces and wipe them thoroughly with a damp cloth. The floor is then thoroughly vacuumed and mopped. The kitchen often presents a particular challenge when tidying up and cleaning. Thanks to step one, we have already put everything in its place, removed used dishes and disposed of leftover food and other rubbish. Now it's time to clean. To do this, first vacuum the surfaces and the floor and then wipe the surfaces with a cloth and the corresponding cleaner. The stove and sink sometimes need particularly intensive attention with a sponge and polishing cloth so that everything shines and shines in the end. Finally, the floor is quickly mopped—and this room is finished.
After the kitchen comes the second problem child: the bathroom. We start by cleaning mirrors and surfaces with appropriate (glass) cleaners and microfibre cloths. Then we take care of the sink, shower and toilet. Important: For optimal hygiene, use different sponges and cloths and use hot water if possible, which kills the bacteria. Finally, the floor is vacuumed and mopped.
There's usually not much to do in the bedroom once the infamous piles of clothes are removed. While we remove and remake the bed, we ventilate it properly. Then we go over all surfaces with the feather duster and finally turn on the vacuum cleaner.
The remaining 15 minutes belong to the dining room and the hallway. When guests come, it should look particularly beautiful here. It's already tidied up, so it's time to dust the surfaces and then vacuum and mop the floor. Finally, we add a few fresh accents.
