Occupying the site of a former detached house owned by the client, 'The Downs' was developed as a replacement dwelling following an number of schemes for increased housing density on the site which was not supported by the Local Planning Authority.

The front of the site enjoys views over open countryside with Denge Woods on the horizon. The client provided a brief for a new dwelling that enhanced this aspect but also provided traditional design with an element of contemporary style and a central double height space. The resulting design provided key element of the brief which was fully supported by the Parish Council and Planning Authority and included traditional timber vertical sliding sash windows, enhanced insulation to walls, floors and pitched warm roof, underfloor heating throughout and designed to Lifetime Housing Standards.
