16th Century Manor House - Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens Modern style kitchen

This wonderfully contemporary kitchen complements the 16th Century surroundings brilliantly, featuring some stunning bespoke details.

Our clients had inherited an old and quirky kitchen, including an unnecessary staircase taking up one corner of the room, and a problem porch which took up too much space and blocked all the light.

We had two options, go completely traditional, or go modern in a way that fitted into the fantastic old room. After lengthy discussions with our clients, we came up with a design which let the room's enormous character do the talking, whilst fitting sleekly around it, providing a highly practical modern kitchen with a subtle yet beautiful character of its own.

Removing the staircase and re-instating the original beamed ceiling gave us a larger, more open space to play with. Re-building the porch with a smaller footprint also helped, and installing fan lights at the top allowed more light through into the room. The kitchen floor needed lifting to allow services to the island and we then reinstated sections of the floor that had been removed in the past and cleaned and re-sealed the floor. The reclaimed oak island is the centre of the action, housing the hob and prep sink, complete with boiling water tap. It also provides a generous seating area for the guests to watch the action take place.
