The owner of this apartment lives abroad but visits London on a regular basis. Her favourite hotels in London are Bulgari and Baglioni and her brief was for Keir Townsend to create a pied-a-terre, that combines both the luxury of 5 star hotels and the comfort of home-from-home experience.
The original layout of the flat had an uncomfortably narrow galley kitchen that compromised the bathroom space cutting it in half and the flat also lacked storage space. The layout was changed to create a functional bathroom and an open plan kitchen as an integral part of the living room. A wardrobe for coats in the entrance hall and clever additional storage space in the main bedroom and the study was added.
“Art Object” wall lights have been introduced throughout the project which improve the lighting overall and create different moods for different occasions.
A number of decorative features have been introduced into the concept, many of which were inspired by nature, using organic patterns and natural materials.
The bedroom is full of contrasting luxurious textures. The headboard has panels of olive green leather, crushed velvet in the same tone and black painted glass that combine reflective and non reflective surfaces. The bed linen is from Gingerlily silk and Molteni home which are available to order from Keir Townsend Interiors showroom
Different sources of lighting have been introduced in order to create different atmospheres and moods. The wall lights on either side of the mirror are in textured cast metal with moonstone back lit LED’s. The pendant lights by the bed are hand-blown faceted waxed glass.
Attention to detail and bespoke touches give this simple bathroom a luxurious feel. To add visual perception of depth to a relatively small space, the bespoke hand-painted glass panel behind the bath is created by painting the background shade on to the back of the glass. The pattern, depth of color and shine is then applied using silver, gold or copper leaf; colors are all hand-mixed to achieve the perfect tone. The panels are made from toughened glass and can be cut to size.
Taps are hand-cut crystal with chrome. The bath panel, wall paneling, cornicing and vanity unit are all in glossy pained wood.. The floor is in cross cut marble as is the ledge around the bath. The bath has a bespoke chrome trim.
Designed to provide a clever solution to bathroom storage, this bathroom butler is a convenient way to access whilst removing the element of clutter around the bath.
The jewel in the crown of this small cloakroom space is the recycled glass basin. It is lit from within by LED’s that emphasize the luminous qualities of the material. Sheer fabric was laminated in sheets of glass for the walk in shower door. Taps are in chrome with wenge inserts
The simple linear kitchen has reflective doors made out of bronzed glass in bronze frames. Fabric and copperleaf have been laminated in sheets of glass to further add reflective qualities to the splashback.
The Italian pendant lights have bronze diffusers and dimmers to create mood lighting for dining. Decorative wall lights are in metal and moonstone, back lit with LED’s.
